I've come across many questions when I decided to go Korea alone. Why are you going alone? Will it be safe? Why did you choose Korea instead of European or other countries? What's so special about Korea? I think many people have come across the same question, especially solo travelers. I hope this helps people who are still in a dilemma to decide to go to Korea.

I received my tourist visa on my birthday. It was the best birthday gift I ever got. I was so excited and happy. I've heard that Korea is pretty safe, but to play it safe I booked a flight that reaches Korea in the late afternoon. Contrary to my wish, my first flight was late, so I missed the connecting flight and ended up reaching Seoul at 11 p.m. I was a little afraid of reaching the city at midnight in a strange country. As soon as I reached the airport, however, my all feelings of fear were replaced by the feelings of excitement and happiness, and everything seemed safe. Do I sound strange if I say that it has the aura to make someone feel safe? Well, I felt that way. I arrived at my hostel at midnight 12 a.m. and when I saw many people hanging out, the first thought that occurred to me was, “Whoaa! Korea is so safe,” and, “Seoul is really a city that never sleeps”.

Korea is very safe

Safety is always the first concern when one travels to a different country, especially if one is travelling solo. However, don't worry. Korea is really a very safe country. Violent crimes are equal to none, and non-violent crimes are rare. Korea has been ranked as one of the safest countries in the world by various magazines and statistics authorities. During my whole trip, not even at a single point of time did I feel unsafe. I hung out alone until late at night without any problem. Safety is not a problem while travelling solo in Korea.

People are very friendly

Korean people are generally very friendly and always ready to help. Whomever I met during my trip, all were very friendly and nice. I have read many blogs that middle-aged women are a little annoying, but I'm telling you that those are the kindest people. Whether you have lost your way or anything, all are ready to help you navigate correctly with their bad English or gestures, although they are a little reserved. It’s easy to blend with people. I was so touched and surprised when a young woman offered me her extra coat during a fireworks festival when it became cold and windy. Who does this?

Commuting is very easy and fast

Ppali ppali is the Korean phrase for "quickly, and with little preparation," and it's applicable to every aspect of Korean life. The subway, the high-speed trains and the buses are always there to take you anywhere with rapid speed. All the tourist sites are connected by subway or buses. It's very easy to access them. Buy a transit card and you're good to go.

Delicious food

Do I need to say anything about the food? Korean food is almost impossible not to fall in love with. It's really delicious, from street food to big restaurants to convenience store food. Everything is so delicious. I want to list them all, but there are too many of them, and, yeah, service is the best, too. When you order one dish, you get seven or eight side dishes. Isn’t that awesome?

The old and the new

Generally with modern trends, historical and traditional heritage items are forgotten, but this is not the case in Korea. In Korea, you can witness both, side by side. On one side you will see a traditional Hanok house, whereas on the other you will see a really tall skyscraper and other modern structures. It's a blend of both.

Shopping, shopping and shopping

Korea is a real paradise for shopaholics. It offers the costliest brands and the budget brands. There are shopping streets and underground shopping arcades across the city that offer great bargains. The most famous shopping places are Myeongdong that houses various clothing brands as well cosmetics, Dongdaemun that's known for night shopping, Insadong that's famous for its traditional Korean items and that's the best place to buy souvenirs for your friends, and Hongdae and Ehwa University streets. The list goes on.

Fast and free WiFi

Korea offers the fastest WiFi in the world. When you're in Korea, you're always connected. Cafes, subways, high-speed trains, even some taxis offer free WiFi. The Seoul city government has also taken the initiative to offer free public WiFi zones.
