I write this article to express how I feel toward the 2017 TV show "Chicago Typewriter" (시카고 타자기) on channel tvN. This is the first time I like and fall in love with a soap opera, so I wanted to share my experience.
This show aired earlier this year. It's about Han Se Joo (played by Yoo Ah-in) who was a writer in his past life during the 1930s in colonial Korea. He has been reincarnated and is today a bestselling author. However, Han is depressed and has writer’s block that keeps him from completing his next bestseller. Yoo Jin Oh (played by Go Kyung-pyo) is a talented ghostwriter who can bail Han out of his predicament, but the mysterious man has a condition for his services that Han may not be able to meet. Jeon Seol (played by Im Soo-jung) is a veterinarian and book lover who runs her own delivery service. She becomes an anti-fan of the overrated Han. Many events occur. Can Han produce another bestseller under such difficult circumstances?

As you watch this soap opera, you can feel a lot of feelings at the same time: happiness, sadness, love, hate, you smile, you cry. The show's lofty goals are sacrifice for the liberation of the homeland and true friendship between the characters.
The actors show great skill in terms of acting and portraying the feelings of the characters on-screen, especially Go who's performing his role to perfection. I believe that this series will be a turning point for him. Even Yoo, after an absence from soap operas, performed his role wonderfully, enough to make you fall in love. Actor Kwak Si-Yang (who plays the character Baek Tae-Min) is in the supporting cast. Although he has played many other roles, in this drama he executes his role in an excellent and distinctive way. This soap opera also marks actress Im's small screen comeback after 13 years.
Good drama requires not only actors, good directing and a good script, but also good music. You can find a good choice of music on this TV show, especially the song "Writing Our Stories" (우리의 얘기를 쓰겠소) by S.G. Wannabe that's played with perfect timing during the serious moments on the show.

Even though some of the episodes have lower-than-expected ratings, I still think this soap opera will leave its mark on Korean TV, as ratings aren't the only judge.
Finally, I hope that no one regrets missing this show. I left out any and all spoilers so you can go and enjoy the show yourself. 😄
