We recently attended the Korean Lifestyle Roadshow 2017 at Berjaya Times Square in Kuala Lumpur. This event, hosted by Korea's Jeonnam Bioindustry Foundation (JBF), was held on April 22 and 23. The main purposes of the event was to promote everything about Korea, in Malaysia, and to reach new markets to sell Korean exports in Malaysia.

Malaysians were able to learn about all sorts of Korean things during the event, such as food, cosmetics and traditions. There were varieties of foods and snacks found throughout the event.  Those who came to the event could taste Korean street food for free, such as tteokbokki rice cake in a spicy red sauce (떡볶이). Visitors were also able to buy the snacks at a reasonable price.  I even tasted cookies with chocolate jam, which were one of the Jeju products.

During the event, some of people tried makeup from Korean companies, such as hand creams, aqua masks, collagen drinks and boiled seaweed salt, which are all good for the heath. These Korean products cannot be found in Malaysia’s markets yet, but Korean companies are planning to reach these markets as soon as possible. Those who are interested in purchasing these Korean products can buy them online, at such stores as 11Street and Lazada.

When talking about Korea, I'm pretty sure you'll think of the beautiful traditional Korean Hanbok attire (한복), the Hangeul alphabet (한글) and K-pop. People who made a purchase at the event were able to try on some traditional Korean clothes and take some photos at a photo spot. Furthermore, they were able to learn how to write their name in the Hangeul alphabet. Visitors were also able to receive as a souvenir a bookmark with their name written on it in Hangeul.

Most interesting, the girl group Red Velvet performed on the first day of the event to promote their songs, such "Rookie" and "Dumb Dumb Dumb." Many K-pop fans came to the event early in the morning to meet their favorite stars. At around 6 p.m., Red Velvet was on stage and it caused a lot of fans to bring out their smartphones and cameras to record the performance. The show was great and the fans kept on shouting and singing along once the music started.

Overall, I really loved this event and had a great Korean experience. The event also can build relations between Malaysia and Korea, and at the same time can increase export markets for Korean companies. I really hope that the organizers will be organizing this event once again in the upcoming years.
